Best Sand Sifter/Cleaner

Hey all well I lost a big shelled crab I had for about 10 years he was the best at keeping my sand clean and just uncluttered. I dont know what type of crab he was or I would get another. As I recall when I got him I was warned he would cause havoc in my tank but I never saw that, he was just fun to watch cause he was always moving around and eating. My kids called him crazy legs :-) Anyway enough of my grieving. Was wanting to get something to keep the sand clean what do you all recommend. I get these little tufts algae that grow in a clump of sand every once in a while that really annoy me.
Anyway any suggestions would be great.
