Brightwell aquatics help

So i am kinda confused about this, Could you guys help me with the math.
On my alkalinity supplement here are the instructions, each ml of the solution will increase the alkalinity in 1 US-gallon (3.785 L) of water by 0.36 dKH (0.13 meq/L).

So if my DKH is at 7 in a 66 gallon tank, how many ml do i need to raise it to 9?

About 400ml per the instructions.

I would not recommend dosing that much at any given time. I bet it uses far less then that.

Also a much cheaper option then pre bottled stuff is simple baking soda dissolved in ro. Its less then 5% of the cost and is the exact stuff used by manufacturers to nickle and dime us.

Are you sure that's what it says? I'm not doubting it (they have some strange products), but that is an extraordinarily weak alkalinity additive. Brightwell Reef Code B is much stronger.

Never liked the Brightwell aquatics alk supplements. or any of their supplements to tell the truth. The alk supplements in particular form precipitates, that then go on to form this hard cake at the bottom. I would spend the first thirty minutes just shaking the bottle, hopelessly trying to get the precipitates to go back in solution.

I got started on them because the LFS nearest me carries only their brand for supplements. I've tried a lot of them. Reefbuilder, Reefbuilder plus, Reef code A and Reef Code B, Kalk +2, etc, etc, etc.

In the end, the best is still Randy's 2 part plus magnesium recipe. That's the link theracer gave you.

Stronger than what? There is a limit to the strength of alkalinity supplements based on the solubility.

I use the Code A and Code B because my LFS carries it. A lot of the Brightwell products are a bit heavy on the adspeak, but I'm very pleased with the results I get using their basic Code-A & Code-B products.

As for that precipitate in the Code-B, I experienced the same problem so I emailed them about it. It's caused by shipping during cold weather. Submerge the jug in hot water for a while it will "melt" back into solution.

I live in New Zealand and Im wanting to increase my Calc, Alk and Mag on my 13 gallon nano.

Firstly, thanks Randy for your awesome input of good scientific knowledge into this hobby, its nice to have decent data that can cut through ad-speak!

I like the look of Randy's 2 part + mag recipe but I am having trouble finding a decent source in NZ of Calcium Chloride and Magnesium chloride at anything better than industrial grade that has levels of impurities that feel too high for me and all the "pickling lime" that I can find has added spices for "extra flavour!"

What is a good source of CaCl2 in the aquarium trade? I can get Bubble Magus Bio-Calcium 1000ml at a decent price and Brightwell Aquatics Reef Code A-P (Calcium) for not much more $.

Brightwell aquatics website lists Code A-P as:
Calcium (min) 32%; Magnesium (min) 0.90%; Strontium (min) 0.70%
What on earth is the other percentage?

Same thing applies with Brightwell's Magnesion
Guaranteed Analysis
Magnesium (min) 2,959 mg/oz. (100,000 ppm)
Ingredients
Purified water, Magnesium sulfate, Magnesium chloride

Im hoping that this is balanced as in Randy's Mg recipe...

Cheers guys!
