Cyano bacteria?????

Hi I think I may have a small cyano Bactria issue, and I was wondering can this cause diseases to fish and corals because one of my LFS says it can and another one said it can't do I was wondering if it can and how, and how to get rid of this
THANKS

Maybe someone can correct me if i am wrong. But, i don' think it's possible for cyano to cause disease in your fish. Too much could smother corals. Cyano may grow on corals if the corals are unhealthy. Is the tank young? What are your phosphate and nitrate levels? Try to get these levels under control and your cyano should disappear.

Both nitrates and phosphates are at 0 and tank is 6 months old, and I know I thought it was very word that this could do that and I'm not sure if it's true so that's why I'm asking haha

Never knew it to hurt fish, coral on the other hand would be in danger

Cyano is not harmful to my knowledge. Check you dissolved organics. Are you using GAC and how long has it been since it was changed? Is your skimmer adequate and operating properly? Are you doing water changes?

I possibly have the most redneck rigged Cyano treatment in Reefing history.I took red solo cups, put hole in the bottom, and turned them upside down on the Sandbed, which blocked out the light from the Cyano. After about 25 solo cups were in my tank, surprisingly the Cyano cleared up and I haven't seen it since...

Cheers,
-Ray
