Best mouse pad / material to reduce in-sump skimmer vibration?
Hi all,
Anyone have a particular make/model they recommend? Thank in advance. John |

I used silicone trivets from Bed Bath & Beyond. They have a waffle like pattern and are about a quarter inch thick. Although they are 100% silicone, I put them in ziploc bags for now as I'm not sure if they're completely reef safe. They probably are but I'm just OCD about things. They have worked great in reducing vibrations/humming.

lowes sells some foam flooring by the foot. I used that to put under my sump tank and under the pumps.

I had a tube of reef safe silicone so I squeezed it all out between two pieces of clear plastic wrap, flattened to about 3/8" and let it cure forever. Finished size is the footprint of my Ehiem 1260 return.

Target sell 100% silicone food grade baking mats. They are like 10x20. I cut them up place where I need them. My mag 9.5 is dead silent now and the sro2000int is much quieter.

Best thing to use that I have found is http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/sound-dampening-pads.html
Have been using it with no problems so far.....7 months in tank not wrapped in plastic bags or anything

I found some of this stuff in Lowes. It was right at the back of the store, on the end of an aisle.
it cuts easily and is working well so far. |

Oddly enough I use a piece of spaflex nearly cut in half and put the pump on top of that... Just had it laying around... Goes underwater.... flexible and smushy enough

Pompey do you know what that stuff is made out of? If it's floor tiles made of rubber for like commercial kitchens it might not be safe.
I just use silicone hotplate squares that I got at the local grocery store. They work great and are totally safe. I know another guy that used airline tubing. He just created a pad out of it and it works really well too.

I too use 100 % silicone pot holders from Bed Bath & Beyond and it has made a huge diffrence for my 2 Ehiems 1262 and Skimmer. Amazon has some as well very cheap.

I wouldn't use that myself. Try to find something that is 100% silicone. Stop by a couple local grocery stores or wallmart or whatever and check out the kitchen area(spatulas, etc) and look for colored silicone potholders.

good luck sleeping tonight. The plain old mouse pads have worked fine for me. Whenever I need one I just take the one on my desk, and the mouse pad angel replaces it by morning. I think she drives an alabaster carriage protected by golden guardians. I hear she won it in a poker game from the Spirit of the West. It's quite nice, four cup holders! |
