Lighting for a 40B

Hi everyone, I was looking at getting LED lighting for my new 40B build and was wondering if the Kessil A350W would be sufficient. Are there other alternatives that work just as well? I'm trying to stick with only LED's.

My long-term plan for my tank is to have a handful of fish along with a mixed reef. I'll also have a 20L fuge-sump that I'll be building that will need lighting as well.

Thanks in advance!

I saw a pic of a Kessil running on a 36" tank; the spread wasn't enough and the sides where way too dark. You'd be better of running maybe two AI Vegas.

I've got a Maxspect Razor 27 inch 16k on mine...really nice, clean look too.

They haven't been out long though so...we have no track record for their reliability or effectiveness although the spectrum is good according to their literature.

I just found out about the AquaStyle lights. Those look pretty promising and half the price of the A350W.

Consider RapidLED for retro, I've heard good things about their products.

Mike,

Would 1 of these cover a 40B or would you need 2?

I have one Ecotech Radion over my 40b. The sides are a little dark, but it works great for a mixed reef to vary light conditions in a small space.

As with anything in this hobby, you can do just about anything for a price. Maybe you should comment on your budget to narrow down the selection.

I'm interested in the d120 as well, and have a 20 currently and am upgrading to a 40 hopefully one day. i know the d120 would be fine for a 20 gallon, but would like to know if it is good for a 40 breeder too!

also, is $165 a good price?

One of these boxes would cover a 36" but it would have to hang about at lease 3 inches from what I understand. If right on the glass, you may get some dim areas at the edges. Check out the Chinese led thread on reef central there are tons of people with a great deal of knowledge on there and real life honest testing going on.

Definitely go with the dimmable version though.

Pictures didn't load. I would love to se em...
