Fluval 406 canister filter

Hey, new to the hobby

How often should I replace the carbon in the filter?

What is the best order for the compartments?

Fluval suggests (from top to bottom):
Fluval carbon
Fluval water polishing pad
Fluval carbon
Fluval biomax
Fluval bio-foam

What would you recommend?

The manual says that the fluval carbon every month. I bought chemi pure elite to replace the fluval carbon. Was that a good decision? How often does the chemi pure have to be changed?

Help would be greatly appreciated
