Connecting second tank to existing sump
Hi there guys. could i get some feedback on how i could run a second tank next to my current one off its sump ?
I have attached a sketch for you to look at. My second tank is going on top of my shoe rack don't have a lot of space to move it so it will have to stay where it is. All feedback welcomed cheers guys |

Just make sure your sump is large enough to handle the backflow of both tanks in the event of a power failure. Other than that you can plumb it by adding another return pump for the new tank or "T"ing off your existing return.

i had a 180g and i wanted to add a 30g frag tank. what i did is drill a small hole in the two return lines so it brakes back syphone incase a power outage. and i bought a bigger return pump so i would have plenty of flow for the two tanks. and i bought two y splitters one to split the two tanks and the other one for the 180 as there was two returns. i hope that helped a lil.

I also just put in a T in my existing return with valve to control flow to new tank...Spent enough time in basement for water changes, sump work etc. where I felt I had to add a 50G so I had something to watch while in basement. Luckily I had oversized sump, skimmer and return pump so adding another tank to existing setup was actually an easy mod.
