Hardened salt mix

So I bought the big 150-200gal bucket of instant ocean reef crystals, for my 55 gal tank some 6 months ago (not the smartest move in the whole world, I know) and now I'm stuck with some 70gal left of salt mix that's hardened up and I don't wanna just throw it out.

So far I've been chipping at the edges with scissors then banging the chunks down with the flat end of a hammer. Anyone else have any secret saltwater magic techniques to get the salt mix un-solidified?

You're doing it. If it is that hard it may be no good. When you dissolve it, check the calcium and alkalinity. Often times salt mix gets hard because it got moisture into it and that can cause the calcium and alkalinity to react to form insoluble calcium carbonate. If that has happened you may be able to still use the mix but you will need to add calcium and alkalinity back to it and it may have a lot of chunks that won't dissolve.
