Finnex Ray II LED light

Came across this light and am highly considering buying it for my tank. I have t5HO on my tank now (which is a reef in the making lol). I bought a smaller one of these for a coral frag tank i just started with a buddy of mine and it looks pretty promising.

But just wanted to see what some of the experts have to say here is the link...

Did you end up buying this? I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 36" DB light with the 10k whites and actinic. If needed, I'll post some tank shots when I get it on the tank. Now I need to find some more rock!

I think that there are two models of this light a cheap one and more expensive one I bought the cheap 12'' one for about 30 bucks it has blue and white I bought it for a future fuge, I like the light, I just use it for a night lite now but when I get the fuge going it should work great.

Well, specifically the Finnex Ray II is sold in a "DS" and "DB" offering. DS is a dual 7k and 10k lights combo, the DB is 10k and actinic, which is the slightly more expensive version.

I got the 36" DB, so it has a ton of lights (288 LEDs) but is a 29W setup, so I am really just using it for display as I am going fowlr anyways.

Should have my light today. Anyone care for before/after shots? I will set it up when I get home from work, but have a birthday thing to go to, so I can take some photos at night when no other ambient light is around.

I would like to see some photos. I was at a reef show this past weekend and I spoke with the reps from Finnex, they showed me my unit and also showed me the Finnex Ray II model the II model is a much nicer unit. The base unit is good for fuge's and small nano tanks.

Overall

Build quality of the mounting legs is questionable, they start to flex with maybe less than 1lb of force.

My chromis came right out, the damsels weren't impressed originally.

The only thing I never noticed or questioned was if there was separate controls for blue/white, which there is not, but for the price, eh...

Two more random overall shots, I am apparently only able to post ten photos a post, but I had one other overall with nothing but the tank lights... maybe next post!

Thats the same one as me Casey. For the price, it's really not bad.

Thanks for the pictures Looks good nice bang for the buck on lighting. Funny the expensive version only has one control and my base unit has two controls.

Letting the fixture run for a longer period today. I went home on lunch and turned the light on and left it on when I left back to work. Will go home to see how hot it gets. My A/C in the house stays at 77 degrees when I am not there, and one of the vents blows almost straight over the tank so I am not too concerned with the heat. Will be on for about 5 hours by the time I can get home and check it.

Luckily I have my web cam running on it. If I notice something goes wrong, I am only 5 minutes from home.

Likely my last post on this light unless anyone else ever comes in with a question or comment, but after letting the light run for about 6 hours, the fixture was still very cool to the touch, so I have no concerns over it getting too hot after running for a while. I turns it on this morning at about 7:30 and will try to let it run to the end of the work day and check it again.

In my ongoing attempts to streamline and simplify my tank, I switched over from a cludgy collection of LED bulbs over my tank and fuge to this light over my tank, and the 10" cheaper version over the finnex fuge.

I like the looks and function of the light so far.

The ambient output is quite nice too. In the overall shot above (1st and 2nd photo), that stand to the left side of the picture is my entertainment center, and with all the lights off except the tank light, it adds a nice mood lighting type of feel.
