Catching a Tang?

Anyone have any ideas on how to catch a Tang without tearing down my tank?

sorry to say but tear down is the only way cause trying to catch it with all the rocks in it is going to stress it out more and prob will not be a good result

Get some really thin plexi glass or lexan from the hardware store. Its got to be a big enough piece to divide your tank. Best Idea if you have a lot of rock, is try and move a few rocks to make enough room to slide the sheet of lexan in to divide the tank. This will basically make it easier to catch the fish because you can corner the fish at one end of the tank. Hope this helps.

Some good ideas here. My favorite is a fast drain of the tank. The fish (all of them) will try to stay in any spot with water in it, so you'll get them in a low place and scoop out the one you want. Nothing is harmed by being out of water for those few minutes; happens all the time in shallow ocean waters.

Make a fish trap. I did and after one day of it being there he went in. Everyone else would go in and eat the food, but he wouldn't the first day. He finally went in, piece of cake really. I made it out of 2 2 liter bottles. You can look it up on google or youtube even.

I would say a fish trap or countless hours with a net.

I know when my water tank levels got low during big water changes for 10-15 minutes the coraline would turn white and die. Guess it all depends on how bad you want it out.

IMO, this is the easiest; you need a few brute garbage cans or other containers.

Just curious, why are you taking him out?

I got my yellow tang out about 8 months ago. Had to tear the whole tank down (55g corner) to remove him. Major pain.

I sold two tangs today and I HAD TO TEAR down the tank, pulled out most of the live rock and it was still hard to catch them.

I say try the catching him in the dark idea first then if it doesn't work try the more time consuming ideas.
