Loud Dripping

I have a 50g uniquarium and I removed the bio balls from the filter area in the back. There's a plastic plate with holes in it which allows the water to trickle down into the chamber where the bio balls were. I have a filter pad on the plate and I'm using Chemi-Pure Elite carbon in the return chamber. The problem is that the water dripping into the empty chamber where the bio balls were is really loud. I have put caulerpa there in the past and that helped a little but is there anything else I can do to soften the dripping sound?

I've thought about putting some sponges in there.

Songes are fine but you will need to clean them every 2-3 days or they will start to produce nitrates. Can you add a piece of acrylic to the baffle to raise the water level in that chamber?

throw enough rock in there so the water trickles down the rock rather than splashing...

I like the rock idea.

Thanks!
