Skimmer killing time ?
How much is too much ?
I started to feed PE mysis because I bought a Copperband from a fellow reefer and he's eating only PE's. The downside is that's killing my skimmer foam head for a long period of time, over 5hrs.

That being said, it's probably a good idea to thaw and rinse all your foods thoroughly in RO/DI water, then strain them and add a little tank water to the food before you feed it to the tank with a turkey baster. This works for me. Also, try and slow down any powerheads that go to your overflow while you feed, and try to feed well below the water surface. This will prolong and help to dilute any residues that would kill the skimmer. If you use filter socks, you can change them more often so that residual oils are removed from the system before it kills your skimmer. My skimmer will go down sometimes for about an hour or so, but as long as it's properly sized and able to catch up, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks Alex.
I'm gonna try soaking the PE in tank water after rinsing them. I never heard of that. I always turn off my powerheads when I feed.

Yeah PE has a whole lot of fat in it and it really messes with skimmers.
Get your hands on some large hakari mysis. Feed PE but mix in the Hakari slowly. Eventually you can switch them off of it and there is some evidence that is a good thing. My butterfies are impartial to formula 2 cubes. They will take that over anything. I put it in a gutter guard pouch and let them pick at it. My longnose will eat anything. My chelmon marginalis will eat anything worm or shrimp based but will ignore all of it if formula 2 is present.

Thank you for the tips guys. I'll shop for some Hikari Jumbo mysis tomorrow.
