What do you do with chalices that overgrow plugs?

I've seen chalices where I can see the contour of the plug that it started on. I prefer to have a nice flat plate contour. I have a chalice that is just starting to overgrow its plug and am having that dilemma. Is there any type of clay, molding compound that I can encorporate the plug into so it can continue to grow seamlessly where you can't detect it was on a plug? I could also attempt to scrape it off the plug and reglue it to a larger flat rock that allows for more growth. What do ppl usually do?
