Patience is the key to any successful reefer...this time can be used wisely...learn as much as you can...then learn some more. This saves money and your relationship

Tho had salt many years back, now am hooked on nano setups, largest 14G, 8G, and a fun 4G. You can learn a lot with a small starter, eventually choose your larger one.
Heck get your feet wet, enjoy, patience. |

Another thing she questioned me what's more important? A new car in the spring or a new saltwater tank. I admit I do need a new car and starting to have minor hiccups. Mine is over 10 yrs old. hehehe.

Let me tell you that I have been in that situation, I have wanted to start a salt water tank for quite some time and I had to move out of my duplex and finish buying my house before i could start one.. In the mean time I had researched and started buying parts bit by bit, plumbing, then lights, then tank... Take your time.. I rushed a lot of things once I had anything, didn't research much, and relied on friends quote ofton. Get a Pico tank and learn using that until you get a bigger one - If I were to do it all over again, I would have had a small tank and learned about it and then got a bigger one.. Do your research, it's extremely important.

Start saving and reading everything you can. I spent 8 or 9 months reading forums books etc. I refused to pay full retail and kept an eye on craigslist for what I wanted. I found a full 180G setup with Lights/Sump/Return Pump/Skimmer/Fish Live Rock EVERYTHING for $950.
Start developing your patience and keep an eye on craigslist. The stars will eventually align and you can go pick up all your gear at one time from that guy that has it on craigslist because he had to have it now and had no patience... paid through the nose for it all and is selling it because he still has no patience for what it really takes and gave up. You can get your stuff for a third of retail if you learn patience early and save even more money applying that patience on that tank when you start it up. It will save you even more when you have the patience going in. Let that other guy take the financial hit. Nick
