skimmer question

When using a protein skimmer inside of the sump under the display tank, is the drainpipe supposed to be directly attached to the skimmer so that all the water going into the sump passes through the skimmer first?

I just want a have a simple 3 compartment sump with a fuge in the middle compartment.

I run the display tank water through a filter sock. That water travels through the sock into smaller chamber that contains the skimmer. It then flows over the baffles. A second overflow box delivers water to my algae turf scrubber. Then runs down onto a ball of cheato. That then is picked up by the return pump.

Please do yourself a favor and check out the latest info on fuges. Unless they are really large, you're MUCH better off with an algae turf scrubber. Search for the thread on "algae turf scrubber basics". You'll find that the "best" methods changed over the course of dialog so be sure to read through before making yours. Very cheap, very easy, very effective.

Cheers

depends on which skimmer your using. some can be direct fed. but usually not the 100% of it.
