Florida Live Rock

New to the hobby and Looking to buy live rock for my 90 gal tank. I found this site

I have rock from Tampa Bay Saltwater. The rock in this region tends to be more dense and less porous than South Pacific rock.

It is great, but it is a matter of personal preference.

tampa bay saltwater for live rock (never used it but heard its the BEST hands down)
reefrocks.net for dry rock..<--this rock is AWESOME.. and Steve the owner is a great guy thats really trying to help.

I heard gulfliverock was very good

Keep in mind that there will likely be some unwanted hitchhikers like mantis shrimp and xanthid crabs. Otherwise, I've heard nothing but good things about the quality of gulf rock.

For me, I like suprises! As long as you do it in a quarantine tank... .Just to be sure nothing bad comes out of the rock.

You will get some hitchhickers, That being said not all are bad

I don't have a quarantine tank, should I take the chance ? I can't wait to get through this newbie stage. I'm scared sh-t !!!!!!!

At least make a batch of saltwater in a 5 gallon bucket, then add more salt to it.

Using gloves, Dip each piece of rock in the concentrated solution of saltwater for a few seconds. The high salt content should make the unwanted critters come out right away!

What does the additional salt do ? Does the water need to be heated ?

From what i understood, it makes the creatures come out of the hole they are in. I think the article was mainly talking about Mantis shrimp.
