black clown and false clown? clowns together?
i have a black clown fish that used to be best friends with my orange false percula clown (i think they paired) but unfortunately about a month ago the orange one died. after enough time for grieving i am now planning on getting a new orange one.
Ive got a fairly large bubble tip anemone that the black one wont go near so ive got a few questions.. 1.) if i get a new orange one will the black one become aggressive toward it? 2.) if the new one i get decides to host to the anemone will the anemone protect it from any aggression on the part of the black one? 3.) if the new fish hosts the anemone will the anemone be more likely to stay in one place? 4.) what are people's favorite clowns? would the addition of any other kind of clown be a bad idea? should i stick with the false percula''s? thanks everybody |

You'll want to be sure to get a clown that is smaller than your black one. Oscellaris or percula only. There is always a chance that your black clown may not accept the new addition so be prepared if there is excessive aggression, that you have somewhere to place the new clown if it needs to be rescued from the black clown. The anemone will make no difference as far as a hiding place goes. And as far as wandering, if the clowns do use it as a host (BTA's are not a natural host for occcy or perc) it will still wander until it finds a place that suits it's flow/lighting requirements.

And aggression will probably be a given, but not necessarily a bad thing. As long as the new fish you add is small enough that it has not developed a gender you should be fine. What will probably happen is the old clownfish will attack the new one whenever it is close and the new one should turn its tail to the old one to show it's willing to be submissive and let your current clownfish be the dominant in the pair. This could go on for days or weeks. As long as your old clownfish isn't beating the new guy to death constantly it should eventually let up (as long as the new guy is being submissive, otherwise they'll fight to the death). I had a pair of photons (perc. and occ. mix) and one died. I added a new occ. and they fought for atleast a week. Now they're best buds.
