GFO Reactor on 29g reef. Yay or Nay?
I keep getting mixed reviews on this. So ppl say Im wasting money by adding this to my 29g reef. I dont have any real nuisance algae issues. it seems that green corraline is more so in my system than the purple. but im sure that will come in time. I had a hair algae issue at first but my hermit crabs and astrea snails took care of that. all I have lately is a small cyano outbreak which I am using the lights out method to try and eliminate.
I have 2 oc. clowns and a bangaii cardinal. I have a few small coral frags. Im running a 10 gallon sump, with fuge. skimmer, filter sock and carbon. Ive noticed lately that my chaeto ball is showing some dead spots. other than that everything seems happy. any input on whether or not to run GFO? |

If your phosphate levels are up over 0.05 I would run it (measure with a Hana Checker if possible), otherwise there is no need. I kept a 28 gallon tank mixed reef for years without one, but I have a GFO reactor running on my 50 gallon tank now as my phosphate levels will rise is I don't.

I would absolutely run it if needed. I myself run it in my 40gal breeder with 2 Little Fish reactor. I change it out monthly.
In your case it wouldn't hurt to start running GFO, in fact I encourage it.
