Angelfish in dire straights
New to saltwater for about 4 months now. I have a 55 gallon FOWLR with 60 lbs LR and around 30lbs of LR. I have 2 damsels and a gold band maroon clown.
7 days ago I added a flame angel and a redstripe angel. Flame angel is fine, but the RS Angel has not eaten since I got him. He paces the tank and looks stressed out. Ive offered flake food and frozen mysis shrimp but he wont eat. Yesterday I noticed he has become lethargic. Floats near the top, or rests on the bottom. Seems to be breathing fine. Yesterday I noticed that one eye is cloudy and he had a chunk of his side fin missing. This morning he has both eyes cloudy and the whole fin is missing. His vision is affected so he is just floating around bumping into everything. I feel horrible and want to help him. I dont have a quarantine tank, but I can get one tomorrow if needed and if he makes it. I dont have any proof but i think maybe its the maroon clown thats picking on him since he seems to show the most interest in him. What should I do? Ive added some Melafix since I was told it would help with the healing of the eyes and the fins. But then I had to turn my skimmer off since it went too crazy. As of last night, Ph around 8, zero ammonia, zero Nitrites, Nitrates are around 10-20 with a water change being done tonight. Do I need to remove this guy? He hasnt eaten in 7 days and hes obviously being picked on. Some advice please! |

^^^^^ Yes, remove it into quarantine and give it peace, quiet and treatment. It likely doesn't have a chance if you leave it where it is. QT will will give it time to rest up and then hopefully it will start eating soon.
You need to have a plan for what to do after your fish recovers. Read the stickies on how to set up a QT. |

I will quarantine it tomorrow. Are you sure its an infection in his eye and not physical damage?

Ok thanks. The cloudy "skin" over the eyes is kind of peeling/flaking off. And the skin around his eyes, and a little skin
around his mouth is also flaking off. I was assuming it was from bumping into rocks etc. If I get him into QT tomorrow and medicate him, what are his chances? (Assuming he makes it through the night) |
