Multiple Aquariums

Just curious if and why you keep multiple tanks in your homes. If so list what you have.

Im currently running a 120 mixed, predom SPS. However Im debating setting up my old 65g and runing rbtas, and softies in it.

36G Bow reef
25G cube FOWLR

The 36G bow was a Christmas gift to our daughter a year ago. Learning how much work a 'Nemo' tank really was, it quickly got taken over by me. So the 25G is hers. Currently only has a Yellow Dottyback because it won't play nice with others.

for different types of corals. i have an sps dominated tank and recently started a zoas/softies tank. the flow in my sps tank is super high and my softies didnt like it. so i separated them. I also have 2 frag tanks running at all times one with slow flow, one with fast. this is where i let my frags colonize before i put them in my displays.

I'm not sure what the debate is? I never asked anyone, especially strangers on the internet.

At one time I had 7 marine tanks in my living room, ranging from 55 g to 125 g.

Thanks for the feedback. Not really a debate or permission. Just curious. I too have had multiple tanks set up a the same time over the years. Just deciding if I want to go that route now.

One reason is to have livestock that can't live togetger in the same tank. I have a predominantly SPS mixed reef 150 gallon, and a FOWLR predator tank 110 gallon. The predator tank has a red volitan lion and a bluethroat trigger, but I'm thinking of setting up another tank for an emperor angel with radiata/antennata and scorpionfish in it.

I have a 5ft SPS set up, which used to house soft corals etc
12 months into SPS, I starting missing the leathers, Zoanthids, GSP etc, so have a 4ft set up for softies
naturally I wanted a nano, so have a 12 gallon set up, to house frags from the other tank
my children got interested and both want to be hands on, so we have a 3ft tropical set up for them to work on
my desk needed a Pico, so a 3 gallon sits there with a couple of tetras and some plants

I will need a larger aquarium eventually I suppose

75 Gallon SPS and Mixed Reef, current pride and joy.

46 Gallon Bowfront FOWLR - ok technically its not fish only, I have a carnation coral and a large purple/green tube anemone. Also have a 4-5" Banana wrasse. This was my softie/mixed reef for 6 years, it didnt have a sump and I was always battling nitrates. I setup the 75 to replace it, and whats left in the 46 is the stuff I dont want to move to the 75. The banana wrasse became aggressive in the 46 and attacked my large black clown. The wrasse tore uip my clowns fins over a few days, and then one day in self defense the clown bit the wrasses eye out. Clown went to 4G quarentine pico reef, healed up without meds over about 2 weeks. Wrasse healed, has been doing fine for 4 months now, swimming normal, eating lots, good color, but I refuse to put him in my new 75, because I want it to be a relaxing tank, and dont want him chasing fish. Tube anemone is just too big to place in my packed 75G tank, so Im stuck with these two things, and the wrasse still needs a bigger tank.

28 gallon nanocube, running for 3 months, no fish yet, just some anthellia, neon cloves, and a few types of zoanthids and button polyps.

14 gallon biocube, had this for a year, with two fish and some corals, lost them during power outage of hurricane sandy. Had to start over, so I rinsed and transferred the rock, and caught all living hermits and snails I could find, and moved them to the 28 gallon. Trying to sell the biocube, but currently am stuck with it running with just live sand and some mico stars.

This never worked out from the start. The stock 26w cfl is not good enough for anything but algae growth. Cleaning was a daily routine, and I was always losing. Tank is a mess now with cyano. I blame the light, and my HOB filter because I dont feed the tank, and have almost no bioload. Its sand, live rock, 3-4 hermits, and 5-6 snails. Its currently on a stand behind me and looking at it I really want to just strip it and start over and try out a Par38 LED setup and better filtration for it.

Call me crazy..but Im currently purchasing another tank...a 67 gallon from a coworker, and he says he has a bunch of accessories like lights and a skimmer. This tank is going in my office, and will be the new larger home (48" long x 13.5" wide x 24" tall) for my banana wrasse and my tube anemone. I was planning on doing a nice rockscape and making it fowlr to keep the maintenance and cost down, but my coworker said he has "two of those nice tube light fixtures" and said there is a 48" one and a 36" one and they were around 300 each when he got them. Hes offering the tank and lights for 125 to me...so I think Im going to take it. Im going to check it out next week, and am hoping he has some kind of decent T5 fixture. Then I can finally get rid of the 46 gallon bowfront tank in my living room, and hopefully Ill get a sale on my 14 biocube bringing me down to 5 active tanks.

Bicoube 29 and 40 Breeder - both mixed reef. This has allowed me to keep more livestock, such as a couple different clown pairs. I also am upgrading to a large tank, so this allowed me to try a few different substrates, rock types, equipment, etc....

Because we always 'need' another tank, right? Seriously though, because I am not married and own my own home. One day, I might not have that ability, so I'm enjoying it while I can. It's always been progressive for me, I build one system, let it run, get bored and either change it up or throw up another tank. I used to have a lot of FW, but got away from all those except for my Gibberosa Moba tank. Now I keep a 105 reef, a 125 moba, a 150 FOWLR, and a 20 frag I threw up to house some softies. Those are just the full tanks, have a few other future projects as well sitting around. Water changes really suck when you have 10 tanks.

Ended up realizing its too much to properly maintain so within the coming months my main tank sump is going to go down to the basement and all frag tanks and DT will be connected to it. This will decrease testing, number of chillers and heaters I use...
