Is this really a softy? Aggresive? And how do I find my bristle star.
Alright first up, is this first pic really a soft coral? Is it aggressive? I've seen one or to kinda long strands with the dot on the end like the normal tentacles. (But not like pics of angry SPS attack strands I've seen) Some of my mushrooms nearby have be been kinda closed though. Then again I've had a lot going on and hermits crawling all over.
Second is, I had a shipment from reef cleaners that went semi bad because of USPS being dumb. Actually good survival except for an emerald crab. Can't imagine the pods+ faired well either. The Brittle I thought was dead, not moving etc. As it warmed floating curled up in a ball. I added it first and it disappeared while getting the rest in. Trying to figure out how to find out if it's survived or not without pulling up all my rock. |

Hard to tell from the picture, but the coral looks like a Torch Coral (LPS, not softie).
Regarding the Bristle Star, you may want to put one or two sinking food wafers in the tank to see if it will initiate a food response. If it does not, you may want to wait after yout tank lights go out at night to see if it comes out. If not, you may need to move your rock around. Be patient, as it is not unusual for them to hide. |

After looking online, I agree torch coral. "Moderate to Difficult". Another reason to be less than enthused with my pretty much only LFS. Told the guy several times only softy/mushroom/zoa as I went about asking which of the ones I liked were in that category.
(Edit more looking, these seem to have smaller tentacles and has several that come from one tube rather than a bunch of solo big tubes?) If it is the torch, how dangerous is it to stuff other than the corals? Any chance I can keep it alive without target feeding and no supplements other than what comes off water changes? Get to call them and ask if they return/exchange or whether I now need to make a CL post. Last edited by Fitz19d; 01/11/2013 at 08:00 AM. |

If it is a Torch, they will sting anything that touches it. However, you really do not need to target feed it or provide special care as long as you have adequate lighting. There are different types of torches, some with thicker tentacles and some with thinner. I really like torches and I urge you to do some more research on their care.
