What to put in new Refugium
I am starting a new mainly SPS reef tank and I have a Refugium in my sump and this is my first one so I am looking for input on what to put in it. I know I want to grow chaeto but not sure if I should add rock or sand or anything else. My DT is 75 gallons and I will have about 40 pounds of live rock and a shallow sand bed.
Thanks for your help!

I suggest you mosey on over to Melev's Reef and check out his insightful information on sumps and refugiums...

I would keep it barebottom, add a couple baseball size pieces of live rock, & a few snails. When you do your water changes, shake the detritus out of the chaeto ball, as well as the rocks, and then siphon out anything that's accumulated on the bottom. Piece of cake.

Depending on the size of the fuge section you may want to add a bit more rock, since your only using a bit in the DT. Other then that I agree with cloak, cheato and skip the sand. Try to keep life out of there, you will end up with snails most likley but anything small enough to get into the pumps or stop a float valve should be kept out if possible. Also if you will be looking to produce large amounts of pods then keep anything out that will eat them.
