This time, my purple tang jumped out ...
Ok, this is getting tedious. Put up my "new" rimless glass tank about a year ago. This is my third tank in the same spot, and by far the best looking (the previous two were plexi). We are delighted with the look - very modern and clean. The Ecoxotic LED fixtures are mounted on the wall behind the tank, and seem to just hover over it - very cool. Not delighted about the number of fish that have jumped to their deaths though, including several fish that aren't known as jumpers (two ORA dragonets, and now my prized Zebrasoma xanthurum who had lived happily in this tank for the entire year). Does anyone have any suggestions for good looking fixes? Obviously, I could put a glass or plexi lid on the tank - but that would mean giving up the look entirely. It has occurred to me that perhaps the water level is too high, and that I should lower it. Right now, the water level is about 1.5" below the rim of the tank. Obviously, changing it would be a major hassle (the overflow is also glass, of course), but I could do it - is there a best practice that I didn't know about when I designed the tank? Any other ideas? Yours in exasperation... |

Poke around at some of the DIY screens on RC. If you can make them recess into your rimless just a bit, it doesn't take away from beauty of a rimless to much. I will be making one for my own rimless build soon. I have one on my old rimmed tank and its worth having.

Most on here use the screening from BRS & make their own top. I don't think that water level would make a difference, if they're going to jump there's nothing to stop them.

Totally understand your point but screen (any type) is only solution. I would also recommend BRS DIY screen and it must be really tight around your overflow etc. no gaps.
