Help - What's on my glass?
Good Evening Reefcentral friends!
My tank has been set up for 6 months now and going well. I came home from work tonight to find some new critters on my glass... can anyone help identify them for me? They're very tiny, in one section of the tank, appear to be an off white/tan color, have a forked tail and they move. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated! Thank you |

Oh crap.
I can't be positive, but they look like flat worms. Not good for corals.

Pretty sure those are giant sea squids. How many cubic miles is your aquarium?

Flat worms. What kind of corals do you keep and do you quarantine?

I currently only have 2 corals - a pulsing xenia and an acan. I added the acan last and that was almost 3 weeks ago. And, no, I don't quarantine.
So, we think flatworms? Any advice to rid the tank of them? Thank you! |

Take a look at this site and see if you can identify your critters. Most common hitchhikers are represented. Your pics are a bit too blurry to make a positive I.d. http://www.lionfishlair.com/hitchhiker/hitchhiker.shtml

I wouldn't worry too much.
If you see the acans or xenia take a turn for the worse I would be concerned. Worms sometimes have a very limited diet. I had flatworms in my tank, after much research I figured out what they were and they would only prey on micro feather dusters that were red in color. I had a bunch of these and the worms considerably thinned out their population. I still see the feather dusters, but I'm pretty sure all the worms starved out, as I haven't seen one in ages.
