LR in Canister?

I am currently using my canister as a method for water flow only, no filters or anything in the canister. I do still see minimal detritus at the bottom. I was thinking of possibly adding a piece of LR and a bristle worm.

Any thoughts on this idea?

its a great idea. i would also put activated carbon in it. change up the carbon every 2-4 weeks. you will see a great improvment

What goes in must come out of the worm. (Most of it anyways)

Couldn't you just add the extra rock to your DT or sump? I think putting it in a cannister filter might be more trouble than it's worth. Your still going to have to take that thing apart on occasion and shake the detritus loose.

With live rock in a cannister filter?

A sponge would be a better option, but your still going to have to keep that thing clean too. Manual removal is probably your best bet. (siphon that stuff out)

Why would you want to put live rock inside the cannister? Makes no sense to me. If it's to increase biolgical filtration, better to put the live rock in the DT in a high flow area IMO. If it's to remove detritus that's at the bottom of your tank, better to just siphon the detritus out, or increase your flow with powerheads to keep the detritus suspended in the water column and be processed. If you just want to remove suspended particulate matter, use the sponge that comes with the cannister and rinse weekly or remove once the water is clear. The cannister is also a great place to keep your carbon, to get rid of the yellowing of the water.
