MP60. Is it safe?
I have a 225 gallon (72 x 24 x 30 high). I had two MP40's, but there were some spots in the tank that weren't getting flow and I plan on stocking mostly SPS. So I added an MP60. I just set it up and I realize that the propeller housing on the MP60 is much more spaced than that of the MP40. Is this safe for my fish??? I'm worried about one of my snowflake clownfish. He's pretty small (maybe 1"). I really don't want to lose him. Any thoughts? Thanks.

MOST fish, when perfectly healthy, have no problem what so ever avoiding a powerhead. Even if it is an MP60. That being said if you are worried about it use the foam cover until your fish grows a bit because I have heard of fish being sucked into the vortechs but there is no way to know what kind of health the fish were in.

My hawkfish sits on my mp60 when its running... Granted I run it at a low speed but still.

I have a yellow corris wrasse and a dragonette that sometimes swim near mine at 75% power and are unaffected. They are very small fish.
I figure the area for water to be drawn into the housing is so large that the suction pressure is relatively low. You can demonstrate this by putting it near the water surface and see how high you have to crank it to suck in air. |

Thanks for the replies! Very helpful. I put the foam cover on it, but need to remember to shut it off for feeding or it gets filthy fast.
