Dimmable Driver for LED Cree

Ok guys, well first of all would 36 LEDs (12 x 5w white and 24 x 3w blue) give enough light if arranged correctly in a 55 gallon ?? Now to the main question, what other drivers could i use or would you all suggest besides the meanwell and how many do i need??

When you say meanwell are you reffering to the entire brand in general or a specific driver?

I would go with the meanwell LDD-H drivers but if your against that brand you could go with something like a buckpuck.

And if you just hate Meanwell and just don't want to buy there products you could try and find the pled-1000 drivers made by Peak. They are just like the LDD drivers but I haven't found where to buy them from.

look around at some of the other LED DIY websites, there are other than meanwell drivers, invertronics comes to mind. Steve's sells various drivers. How many you need will depend upon what you get.

If you want 5W whites, then you'll need to drive them at higher than 1000mA, which is where the LDD drivers which all the cool kids are using stop. Steve's does have some drivers that will go up to 4000mA and they also accept PWM dimming signals.

I think for your 12 5W whites you'd want the Double in the 2000mA version. You'd put 6 of them on each driver and dim them all together.

For the 24 3W blues you'd probably want the Quad with 6 on each channel at 1000mA, again dimming them all together using PWM.

Then hook up the smaller of his two power supplies he offers and you should be good, I'd think. I can't answer the question of whether or not it's enough for over your 55g. Someone will probably ask you "enough light for what?"
