250w Metal Halide Problems
Hey guys, I have been working on setting up my new 55 gallon reef tank. I bought this light off of this guy through my classifieds. It is a 250w metal halide bulb with two power compact bulbs 36 inch and 8 blue leds. The light worked fine the first few days but then it just completely stopped working. I checked the bulb, the bulb is fine since its pretty much brand new and has no burnt marks on it. Any idea where I can find a compatible ballast? Can I just use any brand name ballast like vertex or does it have it to be the same ballast. Sorry new to metal halides so need your help please.

What brand is it? Did all of the bulbs stop working?

I tried finding the brand of this light fixture but no where on it does it say the brand name...the two actinic power compact bulbs and the leds work like a charm but its the mh that stopped working. You find this light on ebay but just doesnt say the brand name anywhere.

It kind of has that Odyssea look to it.
You can replace the ballast, it isn't hard but I would not go back with the same ballast, I would use this instead, http://www.aqua-medic.com/product/ballast-1x250w/ which is remote from the fixture but is also the best DE ballast you will find. It is also sometimes cheaper on Amazon. You will have to crack open the fixture and re-wire it, which is not hard if you have basic skills. This is also a great chance to double check the wiring inside, some of the import fixtures are not wired safely so here is the chance to double check it.

Indeed an Odyssea fixture.
You can use the select a watt ballasts for these, will actually make a good fixture out of it. With better bulbs of course. Phoenix should do the trick. |

No, don't buy that crap. Seriously.
Buy the cube or a m-80 equivalent. Or Buy a good electronic ballast like a galaxy or lumatek digital ballast. |
