220 plus 75g sump - What equipment?

Just picked up a 220g to replace my 75g. Would love some imput to know what to look for in a used skimmer and lights for lots of fish and coral. Will not have a fish room except maybe an under the stairwell closet. Plan to build a metal stand. Thinking to use the 75 for the sump. Not in a screaming hurry but would love to start in a month or less... The tank is drilled with an overflow on one end. Dimensions are 72 x 24 x 30. I am so excited I can hardly stand it!

My co-workers asked I was planning to raise salmon! Strange that most people do not understand this hobby.

I agree. The mind is like a parachute.. it works best when open.

IMO, skimmers are a bit controversial. I have used 5 different brands and only had minor issues with 2 of them. More people liked the 2 I had issues with with more than the ones i didn't.

Skimmer prices lately are a little "over the top" for me.... I have a friend that has at least 4 large skimmers collecting dust on a shelf. I am sure he doesn't need all of them. If you are interested in a hardly used one...I can inquire about a price. I know he does have a smaller one (about 24" tall) that is a ReefOctopus. The other 4 have a similar design but about 8-10: taller and have black trim... not sure if that means anything.

I have a H&S skimmer for sale if you're interested. They are made in Germany, very high quality. They stopped importing to the US about a year ago though. Skimmer was $1200 new. Model is H&S 200-3xF2001 and rated up to almost 800 gallons. Website is http://www.hsaquaristik.de/html/insump3.html. Works great. Let me know if you're interested.

For lights, did you want lots of SPS coral or soft/LPS?

I had the opportunity to look at a 540 gallon aquarium here in town. How in the world does a person place coral in such a large tank? It was 4 feet tall! This one was empty in an empty house.

PM Sent. For lights I was in the same boat. I went with 6 bulb ATI Sunpower with a 50/50 Reefbrite LED strip. I really like the result but my tank is only 24" tall. Have you decided at all if you would like T5, MH or LED? What is the price limit?
