Live rock Hitch Hiker

Totally new to the salt water environment i have some live rock that is seeding my base rock in the cycle atm. Looking around in the tank I came across this

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6iM...it?usp=sharing

any idea what it is ... kinda looks like its in a clam shell also

Does it move? Does the clam move?

I would guess what's inside is just the clam's insides, then.

AMC's The Filtering Dead

Must be a zombie clam...
Seriously: if it still moves and isn't just being moved by the currents it's in its death throes. No clam could be open so wide and not being eaten in nature. So that's not sth a healthy/alive clam would do.

Sadly I must concur with the others. It looks like most of it has disintegrated. Non photosynthetic clams don't typically do well in our tanks.

I have at least 3 little ones (different kind) in my 55 that have been doing well, but they have plenty of food in that tank. I can't imagine it would be doing too well during the cycle, but mine made it. They weren't hanging open like that, though.

Get a pic of the bottom of it if you can't get one from the top or side. Can't guarantee we'd be able to tell what it is, but it's better than nothing!

All anemones can move, so that wouldn't be too unusual. The pic is really blurry, but it looks very similar in color & blob wise to some ball anemones I have on my glass. Really hard to be sure without a better pic, sorry.
