How well do they work with corals? Thinking of changing out my old lighting system was wanting pros and coms.
Thanks |

Like any type of lighting it depends on the make/model and there are pros and cons to each. Yes, many of us (me included) run LED lighting over their reef tanks. Look for 3 watt emmiters and a variety of colors for the best performance and look.

LED can be the best thing since sliced bread but some of the ones on the market aren't even worth their weight in bread.
Do some research and save up to get an LED unit that has a proven track record and preferably one you can go and see on a tank that's been running it more than a couple of weeks. |

I have had a DIY led light built with cree 3w led's and I have sps, lps, and softies doing great. Just as long as your tank isn't too deep you will be fine. I'm currently looking to upgrade to a pair of ecotech radion led lights.

My recommendation is unless you have an issue or other deficiency you want to fix with your current lights, is to wait, research, wait some more. In the equipment forum you can find threads on the lower cost fixtures ("Chinese", Reefbreeders, etc.) and high end units costing 5x more. Competition will move the market's performance and price point somewhere between the two and ideally in the favor of the consumer.
