id possible ick help
Sry for this being long but I want to be thro about this. I got a unicorn tang about a month and a half ago. It wasnt qt because my lfs owner is also a hobbiest tsand this was supposed to be one of his fish so he already had it in qt for 4 weeks. No problems with him in qt and no problems with him in my tank for the month and a half I had him. I picked up a hippo about a week ago. On day two I noticed he was flashing (scratching) a lot. Before I say this I know and practice qt proceedures but after I ordered and paid for him my kid got sick and hospital bills and med bills wiped me out of money than my qt tank broke and I couldn't get another in time so I had to put him right in the dt. I noticed one white spot on him. While looking at him I noticed one white spot on my unicorn too. My question is if my unicorn had ick wouldn't it have showed up earlier and if he picked it up from the hippo wouldn't it have had to take longer to get to the point that I could see it than just two days? All perameters are good tanks been running for two years no problem with ick before this . And I know someone's gonna tell me the tanks too small for the tangs but I'm already in the process of upgrading to a 150g and when the unicorn out grows that I have a place that's gonna take him and put him in an aquarium. As of right now the spots went away on both but the hippos still flashing but not breathing heavy and is eating like a horse.

Well, there's good news and bad news here. The good news is Ich isn't normally just one white spot on a fish. It usually looks like salt or sugar sprinkled all over the fish. So, the white spot might have been something else; even just sand. The bad news is the flashing. That is usually a disease symptom; external parasites, Flukes if the gills are being targeted, even Lympho sometimes. So, while I wouldn't push the panic button just yet (not without more evidence), you might want to get a QT ready. Something tells me you're gonna need it.
BTW, sorry to hear about your child and the medical bills. |

Thanks for the advice I just got a 10g qt tank today off craigslist. Setting it up now to get it ready as we speak. That's what I was thinking about the spot too. And I forgot to mention that the unicorn is not flashing or anything he's acting normal aside from that white spot on him.

It's gone now. It's been about four days since I saw it. It was a white speck. Looked just like the pics I've seen of ick but it was only one spec and its gone now. So far I haven't seen any other spots on either fish.
