I need help with my skimmer

I am trying to tune my skimmer and cannot make it produce the fine bubbles required to build a thick foam.It is not a new skimmer so its 'broken in'.If I close the water exit more the bigger bubbles reach the the foam cup and create a very very wet skimmate.Also i do not know what the second knob for airflow is used for.I played with that too with no success.Please I need your input.The skimmer is an Aqua Medic aCone 1.5

I have never used one of those but if you adjust the airflow valve, it should help unles sthe pump is not functioning at full power -or- if the airline has blockage. Have you cleaned out the pump recently?

I'd start there and then clean out the airline to be safe.
