Reef Octopus BH-90 HOB
Just received my Reef Octopus BH-90 HOB skimmer from fragtasticreef for my 45 gallon cube. Was up and running from unpacking to installation in a half hour.Lovin it so far.Nice head of foam immediately upon startup, microbubbles almost non existent after an hour of use. This model has the drain plug in the collection cup which was a must have.Highly recommended.

Was thinking of this skimmer for my 27 cube. How much room does it need behind the tank?

You should probably leave 4-5 inches between the back of the tank and the wall. I have one on my nanocube (29g) and it has pulled skimmate from day one. I would almost say it is overkill on my tank.

It sits approximately 4" out from the back of my aquarium. So giving yourself 5" should be more than enough.

I think it's pretty quite. I have it on a tank in my office and work and I would say it is no louder than the MP10 I also have on that tank when it runs at full speed. Fades pretty easily into background noise.

I don't hear mine at all.My tank is about 12ft from my bed, doesnt bother me at all.I cannot sleep in perfect quiet though,so I may not be the best example.I run a fan and noise machine while I sleep.

The Coralvue website states 75-100 gallons.I would rate this for a 75 gallon lightly stocked,or a 60 gallon heavily stocked aquarium.

Wonder how the BH-90 compares to the BH-1000/2000?

Im stuck between this skimmer and a Bubble Magus nac5e. Its for a 120g fowlr. No corals. and Barebottom with LOTs of flow so i guess the load will be low. Im wondering weather id need 2 skimmers or just 1. i figure since there's no corals i could get away with just 1.
Any advice? |

I was also considering the Bubble Magus you are speaking of.It was about 5" wider than the BH-90,and that was too large for the back of my 45 cube.I have heard good things about the Bubble Magus skimmers, but I have had more experience myself with the Reef Octopus brand.

Maybe look into a the bh-2000 if you can find some good reviews on it. The pump it uses is 500gph vs 250gph for the bh90/bh1000. http://www.aquacave.com/Reef-Octopus...mer-P2276.aspx my 72g bowfront FOWLR, I dont even use a skimmer.. aquaclear hob and evo 1400 ph. my 180g fowlr, SRO3000 int.
