Am I overthinking this?
Hi,
I am going to fill up my new to me 90 gallon reef ready tomorrow. I got my ro water ready to go (currently in brute cans). I was going to mix the salt and fill buckets using a pump that I previously used to drain tap water from the Dt tanks leak test. Can I use that same pump to mix the salt water and fill buckets, or will it be contaminated from draining the tap h2o? Thanks, Greg |

You're fine. The little bit of tap that might still be inside the pump isn't going to make much of a difference in a 90 gal.

If you want to be extra careful... fill a bucket up 1/2 way with rodi and run the pump in the bucket. Diluting it will help give piece of mind.

There are people that run successful tanks entirely with tap water. I know it is rare but possible. You are definitely over-thinking this. The most common problem with tap water is nutrients and a teaspoon in a pump will add maybe 0.001 percent of what you add by feeding.
