Fish losing sight?
I have a medium to large blue throated trigger in a 225g fish/reef tank.
I've had him for about 4 months now. For the first 3 months he was a voracious eater. All of a sudden he started to hide underneath a rock and didn't swim around. At feeding time he comes out but doesn't eat. Sometimes when a piece of mysis happens to hit his mouth he eats it but otherwise he just swims through the food. It seems that he can smell the food but can't find it. I've managed to hand feed him while he is hiding under the rock. He lets me get close and take the food from my fingers when I put it directly in front of his mouth. Another data point is that when i put my face up to the glass he comes to it. Can he be farsighted and can't see things up close such as mysis to eat? Just wondering. I love this fish and hate to see him struggling. Thanks! |

Are his eyes cloudy? he could definitely have a disease of some sort, a picture would help.
I imagine that he may just be stressed out, what are your nitrate levels?, is the trigger breathing heavy?, do you run RODI water? what about aggression from other fish? We could use some more info.

Eyes don't look cloudy. They move around to what looks like normal. Attaching picture to show you where he hides. This is located on a side of the tank.
Other fish don't bother him. I do have some aggressive fish that would attack if he were helpless (very large clown tang for example). Breathing seems ok. Nitrates not overly high. I been monitoring that but I may need a water change. I do use RO/DI. |
