In short yes, what type of heats ink?
You can do three heat sinks with 12 led each, but you will need to be good with your wiring.
A 55 is narrow, so you will need to go with 60 degree optics which will help with par.
Just have to configure them right to avoid the disco effect, I like using c channel for this reason.

I have the same DIY kit with 90 led. dim. it works great I've had it for a few months now I don't have any problem with it. all my corals are growing fast and their color with the led light looks great. I think they grow better and faster with led. I had ho t5 first and they don't grow that fast. that's in my tank. I have 135 gal

I used the C-channel that goes over the ends of a 3/4 sheet of plywood. So 3/4 is big enough.

Yes it can....go check their site and it will show you the capabilities and yes it is expandable too.

by the way guys, if you add heatsinks to your kits and ask them to assemble, they will do it for a very small fee. something like $10-$20 bucks.
just ask them in the comment section or send ray a email before ordering so you can get an idea of what you want and cost.

Do you have to run fans? I like the idea of using c Chanel for the heat sink. What led combos and optics would you recommend? I want to grow sps softies. My tank is 18" wide.

meanwell has a muh better history of reliability but seems that the aquastyle brand is too aweful. i have heard of some with duds and some with early failure rates. one has to question the situation too though. im sure the number of the std ones being sold vs the meanwells through aquastyles is much higher due to ppl trying to save money so im sure thats why you hear about more fails.

meanwells are pretty much the standard of a good driver that most of the US based led diy kits are supplied with.

i also hear that AS is very good about replacing bad products.

i would shoot Ray an email and ask his recommendation. they have been pretty straight forward with me and helpful. takes about 1 day to get response but other times 5 minutes.

Ray's responses vary. He's taken from five minutes to 3 days to answer my concerns.

The last few things that Felix said were: you have the option of them building it.......I personally don't know that answer. I was unaware they do that.
Felix also recommended the 56 led kit......I would go that route too.

36 led will prolly work for softies but as most reefers do....you will more than likely want to expand into more light demanding corals.

Leaves you with two choices really. Get what you can now to get started and upgrade again later or get the larger kit and be done.

I'm an sps guy so I automatically go for the brighter light.

I send an email to Ray when I did mine he said is a lot better if you do that way the led stays cooler. but any way they don't get o hot even when set them a 100%.
