question on ich

I have a 100 gallon tank with 1 mandarin goby, 1 clown, 1 damsel, 2 fire shrimp, and 2 stars and several crabs and snails. I recently added a powder blue who came down with ich after 3 days of adding her and died. It has been about 3 weeks since she died and none of my other fish have even showed the slightest change in health or behavior. Am I in the clear or are they eventually going to catch it? Thanks any advice is appreciated.

No way to know definitively. It is possible none of your other fish got infected and it is possible that they are maintaining a small infection in gills ect. that you are not noticing. Id say wait and watch, but take this time to set up a QT if you dont already have one.

It's hard to say. Ich once in the system stays in the system if hosts are there. Some fish have very high resistance to parasites like mandarin for example. Demsels have good resistance too but they still could be carriers. That means if you'll add new fish in the tank it could get sick. At this point you may ask "So what should I do?" and forum standard answer - you should read stickers on top of this forum. Read about quarantine and ich treatments.

its not a must but qt'ing all fish and treating them as they were is the best policy. leave dt fishless for 10 weeks.

The mandy is very resistent to it; the clown and damsel moderately so. Since there's a mandy involved, I'm going to go out on a limb with some different advice here. Don't get any new fish at all for 12 weeks and watch these guys closely. It can hide in the gills. Look for gill tissue abnormally flaring from under gill cover, or exaggerated breathing over time, or gasping for air. If your fish go 12 weeks, you can risk another 'resistant' fish, but avoid tangs and angels, which are unusually susceptible to this problem.
