when choosing a skimmer
when your picking out a skimmer do you basically go by total water vol of the tank, sump, and fuge?
I am just asking because I am looking to get a new skimmer in the next month and just wanting to make sure I get the correct size. I don't want the skimmer to be to big for the system as I have noticed it doesn't keep a good foam when it just idles. I am planning on either a 150 or 200 gal DT with my 100 gal sump and 50 gal fuge and looking at getting the RLSS Waveline 8 External.

I go by total volume and try to find one that is rated for just a little bigger, if possible. For instance I'm building a 125 with about 20 gallon working sump volume and I'll try to get a skimmer that's rated for at least 180g, but like you said, not too much bigger.
