SunCoral Help Needed \(*@*)/
Firstly I'd like to say helloo everybody!! I'm a newbie to Reef Central but I've been looking at your open fourms for help for a while now so Thank you! Anyway I have a 3 gallon Pico tank that I've had up and running successfully for a while now but I have this darn Sun coral that will not open and I've tried what feels like everything from intense spot feeding on the regular, moving in to every type of location of the tank, I even bought a powerhead just for this baby and STILL NOTHING! I don't understand I feel like I BaBy this thing (!-!) My water quality is spot on and I do feedings? to the stubbornly closed coral multiple times a day... The coral's color looks just as bright as the day I got it and I've had it for over 1 1/2 months! I'm running outta idea guys, help meh!

I am a newbie and have a sun coral. It only came out after lights out at first for me. Around 8 p.m. every night. Do you have a picture of yours? Mine doesn't like light. It prefers the bottom of the tank under a ledge or having the light blocked some. The only time mine didn't come out all the way is when it had a vermitted snail on it. In my opinion, they like moderate flow. Not blasting flow. What do you feed yours? They have to be out some in order for it to be fed. If they are closed up, they are not eating.

What you're feeding may be the key. So, what are you feeding?

I'm gonna try placing him under my arch where its slightly shaded, see if that helps.
I feed it Kent Marine ZooPlex, the mouths puckered up but never fully extend the tenticels so I guess it does eat but it just doesn't open, even at night when I look at it during lights out. |

Feed it a lot more meatier food than zoo plex. It should open during light hours just squirt food at it often while feeding. Or can use soda bottle to cover and feed that way o carbs and fish can't steal food.
I feed frozen food such as marine cuisine or bloodworms or squid. It will take many varieties. But plankton is too small IMO |

I spot feed mine when they are open. They like frozen brine shrimp, and squid. You have to feed each polyp so I put some food on each one. I think You Tube has some videos out there on how people feed them. They are not photosynthetic so they do not get anything from light like other corals. They need meaty coral foods. There is something I use to get them interested. It is called Coral Smoothie by Algagen. I put a little squirt on them and they seem to pop out for feeding after that. Then I put the shrimp or brine pieces on the polyps. Mine eat every night and are really extended even sometimes during the day.
