Help Identifying Coral
I apologize from jump about my naiveness. This is my first marine tank, which I set up approx. 2 months ago. After cycling my tank, I first added 2 snails and 2 hermit crabs. Yesterday, about 3 weeks after adding the snails and crabs, I decided I was ready to add my first corals. I asked for easy care corals at the LFS, and this is what I came home with. Can you please help identify? He told me what they were, but I asked so many questions that I honestly can't remember what he told me.
I know this is either a torch or frogspawn, but looking at online pictures I am having trouble telling them apart. This one is the main one I am not sure of. I have searched through "beginner coral" online and haven't run across it. Thank you for your help! |

Pretty sure the first one is a torch. This is mine (though he's retracted somewhat)

The first one is a frogspawn. Frogspawn, torch, and hammer coral are all very similar. You can tell its a frogspawn because some branches split and form a Y tip (at least it looks like theres at least one branched tip, in the bottom right area). With a torch, no branches are forked. Hammer has...well hammer shaped tips. Can you confirm if any of the branches are forked?
Edit: Just remembered this, torch corals have only one tip per tentacle, frogspawn can have multiple. There are a few in your pic that appear to have multiple green tips per branch, so my vote is baby frogspawn. The second one is clove polyps. I attached pics of my torch and frogspawn as an example, both grown from a small single head frag like yours. An idea of what your torch can look like in a year. Mine grew much faster after I started target feeding mysis and flake food 3x week. The frogspawn seems to be a slower grower, but has doubled in size after a few months

My clove polyp (pulsating zenia I believe) moved from its original plug I bought with and worked its way higher up on my base rock. Has anyone else experienced this?
