Reuse AI Sol components after Vega upgrade

My friend upgraded his AI sols to vegas. I wasn wondering if i can use the sol components, to build another set of AI sols. From what I've seen, i only need the heatsink part and the power supply to build a new sol. Has anyone done this? thanks!

I'm doing it. I got 14 heatsinks and fans from AI. I will sell the reconditioned Sols.

Does AI sell just the heat sink? I haven't seen this on their site. Either way the full SOL black upgrade is $100, seems a bit much to spend if you just want the heat sink. Has anyone used another sink successfully or will AI sell the sink only if you ask directly?

They do sell the heat sink only for 75 usd. Its out of stock right now. However you still need to buy the fan which is 15 usd. So that would be 90 usd. Almost the same as the black conversion kit. Its quite expensive but since i got the other parts for a cheap price, i think its worth it.

I think any good heatsink can be used. Just some modifications.

Im curious regarding the ebay power supply. I can buy almost three ebay supplies for one power supply from ai. The only problem i see is if the dc jack would fit.

i ordered the china 36V 2A power supply from ebay. $39 for 4 pieces shipped thru fedex. however, the F$%*# customs in our country sucks bigtime! i was charged around $45 for duties and storage fees with VAT. Since it was shipped by wednesday and i got the package by monday. the box was less than half of a shoe box. well, it is what it is. The good thing is the dc jacks fit perfectly and it works like a charm.

I use generic power supplies to run my sols. Bought off ebay ( from US seller ). No problems volts and current is volts and current. When you upgrade to vegas they recommend to upgrade the power pack.

I have all the parts from a AI Hydra and a AI Sol except for the heatsink after upgrading the lights. I would love to get my hands on a couple heatsinks for them. AI used to sell them for $75 but now they want ~$300 to keep people from being able to reuse their parts...

I have been thinking about buying a blank heatsink and drilling/tapping it to take my AI parts.

How did you purchase 14 heat sinks from AI?

I called AI after I upgraded my Vega to the Hydra 52 and asked if I could purchase 1 heat sink to build a Vega with my remaining parts. The answer from AI was a absolutely no.

Thanks,
Randy

His post was from a year ago. They would sell them back then. Not anymore. I have even tried to get in contact with the company that manufactures them for AI.
