New RO/DI unit

I'm in the market for a new RO/DI unit any suggestions? Lfs has one for about 150$ but can't remember the brand. Which one have you guys been successful with?

I've heard only good about Bulk Reef Supply, Spectrapure, The Filter Guys, and Buckeye Field Supply. All depends on what you want to spend and what options, levels you want.
I doubt you could go wrong with any of these. (Though I lean toward BRS just because they always answer all my online questions and have great videos! haha)

Basically it is new. From what I have heard is there was a very large purchase that was returned to Spectrapure and now they sell as refurbished. Units are in brand new condition. I have one and have been very happy with the results

I looked at this until I saw THIS:

"Standard factory warranty does not apply to refurbished systems"

That doesn't instill confidence in me for their quality.

IME the warranty was not needed. I have had mine for 1 year and no issues. The normal price for the unit is $200, you could pay an extra $70 if you feel you need a warranty

It's not particularly needed but I question why they don't include it if it's a factory refurb. Just about everything else that is sold as such includes a warranty of some kind from the manufacturer. Ha, even as stingy and draconian as Apple gives the same warranty on their refurbs as on their new ones.

IMO I just feel if they're sure of the quality, then what does it hurt them to include the warranty?

There is nothing on that unit that can really fail to begin with. From what I can tell this unit has no pump or anything like that. All fittings are John Guest style fittings so leaks are really not an issue either let alone a warranty concern. I'd have no concerns about buying this unit. Given that the filters are new, you are essentially getting a new unit short of maybe a mounting bracket, 1/4 lines and the filter bodies.

That said, Spectrapure makes great units. I have one of their 100GPD high efficiency (1:1) automatic RODI units plumbed into my 100 gallon water storage contrainer and I love it! It works like clockwork and has been problem free for 2 years now. Their support is excellent as is their quality.

How difficult is it to add a chloramine unit to this particular system?

I have a BRS unit, BFS prefilters and DI, and a Spectrapure membrane. They all have great products and customer service. I have been very happy with all three.

Good idea. I had a live chat with someone at BRS today and he'd suggested the same thing; just going with one already setup for chloramine.

Can you believe we actually DRINK this water from the taps???!

Hmm. Can you drink the output from the RODI system without the tank (just putting the filtered line in a jug until it's full then back in the reservoir?

guys thanks for the feedback . I currently am running the GE model with 3 gallon holding tank and I just realized I haven't changed the post online filter for chlorine odor n taste in white some time so I changed that and I am running 140ppm into the unit and 006ppm coming out its 5 stages but 5th stage is considered the tank holding stage so I think I'm gonna get the Do add on and feel that should get me down to 0ppm. I got all new filters (1 micron, the 5 micron carbon, new membrane) and it came down from 17 ppm to 003 ppm. Didn't realize my membrane was a little over a year. So Do add on and new post inline filter should. Help alot. Just so you guys know my LFS has a 75gpd bulk reef supply unit 5 stages for $140 and digital readout tds meter as one piece add on for another $50 that sound like a pretty good deal if anyone is looking for one I guess the DI gives you 6 stages? . Saltwateroasis. Com .

Either way you guys think the DI add on will get me to 0ppm?

Sure. But make sure you plumb it correctly so that no RO water from the pressure tank makes it to the DI.

Why do you have the pressurized tank installed on your system?

Russ

It came with the system so it gives me available daily top off of 4-5 gallons for pouring from a valve I put on end of tube in about 1 minute instead of the trickle like all ro/di units put out.

When you say 100 gallon storage tank is this saltwater or only RO/DI water just sitting with circulation. I want to setup something like a 55 gallon can but wasn't sure if it had to be saltwater or could lwave it plain Rodi water? And does it need any heater and circulation?

What's your water pressure? If its below 50 psi I strongly suggest a aquatec 8800 booster pump
