how long can my sump be down?

I have just ordered a new skimmer and am planning on redoing my sump... how long can i keep my sump down with just the two mp 40's running in the dt?

This will depend on the filtration that you had in the sump but for the most part, as long as you keep your water flow in the tank, you should be ok for several hours. You can always pull a jug from the sump and dump it in the tank every so often so you have at least some movement going between the two spaces. Keep an eye on the temperature and go over your plan exhaustively so you don't have to abort the work...

Good luck with things.

it depends on where ur filteration is? if u have 90% of ur rock in tank then u should be fine for a while.

If you are running a refugium in the sump you will also need to keep that rock and algae in a heated bucket with water circulation. The DT should be fine for an extended period if you have powerheads and can keep the temperature under control.

Use an airstone to the DT as well.

+1 If the bulk of your LR is in the tank, then I would say you are good indefinitely. Remember, some folks just go sumpless. Having lots of LR in the DT is primarily how they do it. But I would also point those 2 MP40s towards the surface for increased gas exchange; to compensate for your skimmer being down.

couple of hours without a sump for a repair on bulkhead is not an issue at all. u will be fine no matter where ur filteration is.
