Test Kits after Cycle
I'm not new, but it seems like this fits here. Also, I couldn't find anything about it, so I'm sorry if it's been asked before.
I'm about out of reagents, and fixing to need to get refill kits for my tests. The question is, is there a need to purchase and keep on hand reagents for ammonia and nitrite for mature systems? I was wondering because if I can save that money, I can invest somewhere else in the tank, and my wife will be a tiny bit happier, and since my nitrite and ammonia are always exactly the same at 0 every time I test, is it really a needed expense to keep around. I know I need to keep and use a nitrate and phosphate test on hand, as well as some others for Ca and such. |

I guess having them on hand would be a type of security blanket. If something were to look wrong you could test right then and there. On the other hand if something does happen you can always run out a purchase a test kit if the situation comes about.

its just a security thing in a mature tank. i would ditch the nitrite for sure as its not harmful to fish and u can live with out. ammonia i would keep just in case.
