Question on 75 gal mixed reef tank
I currently have a 75 gallon mixed reef tank and was wondering what to do for the best flow for the corals. Currently I have a 30 long sump with a mag 9.5 return that is chocked off quite a bit and I also have a vortec mp40w powerhead also. I have the power head turned down some because it seems like if I turn it up much it blows everything around. I also know my water is moving pretty slow through the refugium since the return pump is turned down. What would you all recommend for flow and should I run my return wide open and adjust powerhead based on that and place corals from there or what. Thanks!!

Also what would be the best placement for the vortec? I have it on the far right side of the tank aiming towards the left side. Should I get a mp10 to go with it? It seems like my corals are mainly getting moved in the same direction like the r getting direct flow. Thanks

I have 2 mp40s in my 75 that are usually in lagoon mode, but sometimes tsm or ntm. The flow is turned up to 75% (9/12 LEDs). I started with one MP40 and loved it, but when I got the second one they became really cool because I could sync them. I think you should add a second MP40/10 . I also use a 30g sump but have a mag7 that's run wide open.
I love the high flow in this tank and have a 4" fine dsb that doesn't blow around at all anymore. Just let some natural valleys form, things should settle into place eventually. Btw my pumps are 6.5" down from the top of the tank, and about 7.5" from the front glass. The small flat section of the wet side grill is facing up for me, but you might have better results facing it down

Also when you put corals in the tank do you usually group them by sps, lps and softie or mix them all up?

I would say I generally group stuff, based on things Ive learned from my tank.
- Acans must be as low as possible or they bleach (I run 716w of light 4" above my tank) - Zoos are happy anywhere - Frogspawn must be on bottom left due to high flow - Most SPS frags are happy anywhere in the tank, but I usually start them off in the sand bed - I buried eggcrate in the middle of the sandbed, so that I dont have to worry about frag plugs falling over - Some things have their groups, but usually due to space. For example, I have two clusters of sps frags, one group in the middle and one group on the right BTW my tank is "yellow/green" due to the amino acids I added minutes before taking the pictures...takes like an hour for it to go back to normal

Thanks man! I like your tank! I add that "fuel" stuff to mine. It is like reef fuel or something.
