Pump recommendation for water changes...
Hi all,
I mix my water in a 32 gallon Brute garbage pail, and pump it into my tank using the same pump used for mixing the water. Up until now I've been using a Mag 3, 350 GPH, but it just died on me. Not surprising... it had logged a lot of hours over the years. I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement. Looking for something quiet, appropriately sized for mixing salt and aerating water in a 32 gallon container, energy efficient, and something that won't blast water into my tank. Needs to handle about 4-5 feet of head pressure. Looking to spend anywhere from $75-$150 I suppose. Thanks! |

If the mag 3 worked well for you replace it with a sicce of equivalent gph. Something like a sicce 1.5. DEAD SILENT.

I use a Maxijet 900 with the Sureflow impeller and magnet mount for mixing in a Brute can. I think it's around 1,000 gph at only 10 watts, much more efficient for mixing. I use a separate Eheim compact 1000 for pumping it out.

I use a cheap pond pump from Ebay to pump water up from my basement. I think it was $75. The only thing bad about it is it is huge and sucks air when there is still 3 or 4 gallons left in my 44 gallon brute.

Just got my Sicce on my doorstep today though. So not only was it on sale, but it arrived in two days! The 1.5 Sicce seems like a smaller replica of the Tunze I have in the sump of my 75 gallon tank. Really quiet, and strong flow for the small size. It's moving the water nicely in the 32 gallon container, firmly attached on the side with its suction cups. The final test will be this weekend when I use it to pump the water to my tank a couple of rooms over, and 5 feet up. But I have faith. Thanks for the suggestions. |
