ATO directly into DT?
I am planning to buy a Tunze Osmolator ATO for my 120g tank (30g sump)
The thing is, my reservoir is tall and thin to fit the space I have. So, I need to run the top off tube up to the DT and not into the sump below to prevent siphon effect when the ATO shuts off. Can I still place the sensors in the sump or will this give me problems? Should I run the ATO tube into the overflow? Noob here.... |

Either way will work just fine, I would run the tube into the overflow though, This way the water will get mixed up much faster

I used to have to run my osmollator toy display. I made an acrylic holder to keep it in place in the overflow. It worked great.

The sensors need to be in the sump, in the chamber with the return pump, as that is the only part of the system where the water level drops with evaporation. And there's nothing wrong with having the pump pour the water into the display aquarium. Like Shifty said, you can have it pumped into the overflow box itself.
If you don't want to do it that way, there is another option. Take like a 2' length of PVC and stand it up in the sump vertically. The PVC should be long enough so that the top of it is above the highest level of the water in your reservoir. Then have the Osmolator pump the water into the top of that tube. |
