Peppermint shrimp - California vs. Florida origin
Is there a difference on a peppermint shrimp depending on where they come from - california vs Florida? Your thoughts??????
So I had a new peppermint shrimp (not a camel) tear into my health frogspawn. This was after i noticed several zoa polyps missing. My old one had been keeping the aptasia in check until it died. The old one only harassed a few corals but only while I fed them. So I tell my LFS and he asked if I had got it from him. He says the California peps are NOT reef safe and eat corals. He also says the Florida peps cost more by the only ones he gets because they ARE reefsafe and won't eat coral. Your thoughts???? Anyone else heard of this? |

California peppermint shrimp come from water that's 60-70ish degrees, I've seen them at 48 degrees. The difference is they don't last too long in a reef tank, you definitely want Atlantic ones.

I will guarantee not all Florida peppermint shrimp are reef safe either!! Have had some terrible coral munchers - and they came directly out of the Gulf!
