I don't think this was just over feeding.

When I came back there were a few things that went wrong that I think set this off.

1) I just remembered this recently but a week or so before I left I noticed there was an accumulation of bubble algae on the back wall. I know it was from the piece of rock I got from a guy that was getting out of the hobby. I scraped them all off with a razor blade then did a small water change.

2) I was running bio pellets for a little over a year with no issues. When I came back the pellets were stuck together and the pump was still going.

3) no water changes for 3 weeks with 1 and 2 going on.

4) no one emptied the skimmer cup so it just filled then dumped back into the tank.

so those are some things to think about.

Latest update to give hope to future bubble algae victims

There's a little branch of something growing here:

Above is the GSP I found in the back growing in the bubble algae. I actually rinsed in the cold tap water and its doing just fine haha

I copied and paste into browser. What is the first pic of? Looks like the bubble algae has gotten smaller!

Nice Job!

First pic are the bubbles I picked off the rock on the bottom of my water change container. It's starting to look like a normal tank in the right side, now I just need to work on the back and left sides.

I'm pulling bubbles about every 3 days now and running a ton of GFO (see pic) and skimming pretty wet. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374018642.401860.jpg

Thanks everyone, I'll be reporting my progress every once in a while until all the bubbles are gone.

Also fun fact, if you drop a bubble in really hot water it explodes. In case anyone's bored haha.

looks much better. When you do waterchanges siphon out as much as you can.

Yeah I'm using 1/4 airline for my water changes. I can suck out one bubble at a time. For the back wall I used 1/2 hose and just go for it.

Hi all, I'm back for an update.

It's almost starting to look normal again

I found this guy encapsulated in bubbles, I think it will pull through

If not I started another colony on a different rock a while back. The bubbles weren't so bad over here

I also may have aggregated my acans, I had to pull them off the rock they were attached to so I carefully cut the attachment with a razor. Hopefully that will heal up nice.

Ill update again soon.

Oh and I thought this was kinda cool. This coral, I think it's a pink lemonaid, was growing over the bubble algae.
